The goat is the oldest and closest friend of the Cypriot.

The goat says to his master "If you take me for a walk often, I will give you plenty of milk." While the goat is very active, it is also very generous to those who care for it. Goats make good pets if you can keep up with them.

Goats are the mainstay of meat (not the best but cheap and sweet), good source of milk, trained to follow like a dog/pet. Its hide is used for clothing, boots and canteens.

Goat milk used to make the cheese of choice, haloumi, on Cyprus. Because 150 gallons of milk is needed to make only 15 pounds of haloumi, often the villagers would put their milk into a community pot so that the milk would not spoil.
